THE BODY PRACTICE

This is a Blog site devoted to the development and interest of The Body Practice.

The Body Practice is a system of two primary components: One: exercise intervals designed to charge the metabolism, work and target virtually every muscle group in the body without the use of any equipment. Two: and what really separates this practice is the Yoga practice at the second half of the program.

This method was created purposely to expend energy, stress, and focus through physical exertion- followed by a restorative yoga practice bringing balance to the mind, body, and spirit.

This stylized way of training will produce maximum caloric expenditure for the time the participant is moving. Unlike, conventional weight training- which primarily targets a few different muscle groups, the Body Practice will show its mastery through the simplicity of body manipulation.

The Body Practice Program is a program that can be done virtually anywhere because it requires no equipment. As a comfort, a typical Yoga or Pilate's (mat) will suffice for the floor based exercises, but it is not empirically required.

The methodology was created around November of 2007, when I was staying at a hotel in Seattle that did not have an exercise facility. I had begun to compile a list of the myriad of body-weight type exercises. Once the list was compiled, I began to formulate the choreography of: warm-up exercises that progressed into the more challenging exercises.

Initially, my experience with Body Practice was met with overwhelming taxation of the body. I would just try and 'Blast through' the workout, but I found that sustaining a full minute on many of the exercises was exceptionally challenging to do. With time came refinement. I learned about pace, technique, and above all- how to listen to my body.

The first formal Body Practice class was conducted at Atlas Training Systems in March of 2008. It was an immediate success with people. The interest grew as did my taste for continuing progressive movements to accommodate change, muscle stimulation, and the overall interest of the program.

Clearly the message of The Body Practice is one of uniqueness of individuality. There's no two people that are going to look the same performing the same exercises. Accepting this is the first lesson to a greater understanding of this concept: this is Your Body Practice!

Students that attend my classes are constantly reminded of their personal uniqueness in performing the movements for them- NOT performing for those around them.

The project now has evolved into three basic plans: a beginner, intermediate, and mastery level classes. The Body Practice will begin DVD production in September of 2009,
and hopefully have a finished product by the end of the year. More to come.

(I have been coaching people in the fitness field for 15 years. My back ground is rooted in Sports Medicine, Kinesiology-(exercise sciences), Yoga, Martial Arts and more. The Body Practice is a collection of learned movements over the years that I wanted to bring to the masses. Combining: calithenics, plyometrics, conditioning, yoga, and martial arts into a single program that uses no equipment! No hype, no frills, just simplicity in it's purest form.) -Namaste Everybody!
